Behind the song
From the
source.
Roger Rabbit is a confession from the person who kept escaping accountability until the truth finally outran him. The charm, gaslighting, double life, and shifting blame are retold without disguise as the narrator watches his manufactured halo crack.
What begins as swagger collapses into consequence: the people he deceived compare notes, the queen walks away, and remorse becomes the only place left to hide.
Official lyrics
Roger Rabbit
Yeah…
They called me Roger Rabbit
Guess I earned the name
Always dodging all the truth
While you carried all the blame
Lately I've been hearing what they say
Every crooked little story that I used to slip away
Smooth talker, silver-tongue ballet
Made you question your own memory so my secrets never strayed
You found the problem, it was me the whole time
You weren't losing your mind
You were reading every sign I tried to hide behind these lines
Non-committal, lady-killer, crown and throne
Walked into your life like heaven called me on the phone
Endless messages and sweet melodies on loan
Stole your heart then vanished soon as you got close to bone
It wasn't some shattered dream you couldn't find
It was a blueprint of a lie that I designed
You were right and I was wrong every time
Just a devil doing dress rehearsal, selling angel lines
I kept sliding every piece like chess without a name
But every woman I deceived started whispering the same
Roger Rabbit, Roger Rabbit, there's nowhere left to go
Roger Rabbit, Roger Rabbit, everybody knows
I can run but the truth runs faster
I can hide but I built this disaster
Pay my dues now, yeah my time has come
Roger Rabbit, Roger Rabbit, no place left to run
Master class at rewriting what you saw
You asked me who she was, I said you're reaching, find a flaw
That pretty thing pirouetting through the club
I sang with all my chest while my eyes were making love
Was it Aurora? Was it Eve? Who was she?
I said "just a friend" like that could kill what you could see
But she wasn't first and she was far from number three
Lost count of all the ghosts before you lost your faith in me
How did I juggle a double life?
Stacking hearts like poker chips while a queen sat by my side
Hid the ring then left you on read
Threw you under every bus to keep the blood off of my hands
Red flags weren't whispers, they were screaming in your face
But every time you spoke the truth I made you feel insane
Called you crazy when you had the case
Painted you the villain so the jury looked away
But you flipped the script better than I ever planned
Stopped begging for confessions, put receipts in every hand
I thought the charm was bulletproof, it saved me every time
But the halo finally cracked and they saw what hid behind
Roger Rabbit, Roger Rabbit, there's nowhere left to go
Roger Rabbit, Roger Rabbit, everybody knows
I can run but the truth runs faster
I can hide but I built this disaster
Pay my dues now, yeah my time has come
Roger Rabbit, Roger Rabbit, no place left to run
Ego's limping but the room went cold
Every heart I spent is finally keeping score
You were karma's wild card I couldn't fold
Thought you'd shatter quiet but you broke my door
Hell hath no fury? Nah it wasn't rage
It was every buried truth escaping from the cage
I called you bitter, called you cruel and strange
But you were never villain, I was jester on the stage
Throne is empty and the queen is gone
Traded something breathing for applause that don't last long
Roger Rabbit, Roger Rabbit, there's nowhere left to go
Roger Rabbit, Roger Rabbit, now the whole world knows
I can run but my past runs faster
Every lie became another chapter in disaster
Pay my dues now, the universe has come
Roger Rabbit, Roger Rabbit, no place left to run
Time's up, universe came to collect
Every promise that I shattered, every heart I wrecked
You asked if conscience eats me alive
It does every night, now there's nowhere left to hide
You weren't crazy, you were right on time
I was the sinner selling halos on the side
No angel, no celestial disguise
Just Roger Rabbit, a devil dressed in lies
